What to Do in Trois-Îlets During Your Trip to Martinique?

Discover the Village of Trois-Îlets

The village of Les Trois-Îlets offers an atmosphere quite different from Pointe du Bout. Here, the vibe proves to be much more local, authentic, and almost timeless.

The narrow streets are organized neatly around the central square and the Church of Notre-Dame-de-la-Bonne-Délivrance. Built in the 18th century, this building remains a major symbol of Martinican religious heritage.

Furthermore, the town is widely famous for being the birthplace of Empress Josephine de Beauharnais (Napoleon’s wife). While strolling around, you will encounter colorful traditional houses and locals chatting peacefully in the shade of large trees. Additionally, several viewpoints allow you to take absolutely beautiful photographs.

Expect to spend about 1 to 1.5 hours exploring the area. Be sure to take this opportunity to visit the local market and buy a few regional specialties!

Enjoy the Turquoise Water Beaches

Les Trois-Îlets has been one of our absolute favorite spots since we moved to the island. Ultimately, it is a highly pleasant sector where we love to unwind on weekends.

Below are the beaches we visit regularly:

Anse Mitan

This is undoubtedly the most famous beach in Trois-Îlets. Therefore, remember to arrive early so you can fully enjoy it and easily find a spot in the shade. Its light sand and calm waters instantly seduce visitors. Moreover, the stunning view over the bay of Fort-de-France greatly adds to the location’s charm. Late in the day, the sunsets here are truly remarkable. Several free parking lots are located nearby, so you won’t have any trouble parking.

Similarly, numerous restaurants and bars line the beach. As a result, you will have no difficulty finding a great meal to enhance your day. The atmosphere is generally lively, yet it remains very pleasant.

Where to Eat at Anse Mitan?
  • For a quick bite: Head over to D’lice Bokit. Here, you can taste delicious bokits (a traditional deep-fried flatbread sandwich) with numerous filling options, including a great vegetarian recipe. Expect to pay around $16 to $22 USD (€15-€20) for a combo meal featuring a bokit, fries, and a drink.

  • For a friendly vibe: Le Kano is exactly the kind of address we love. You can enjoy shareable tapas alongside a wide array of traditional and modernized local dishes. Plan on spending between $22 and $32 USD (€20-€30) for a main course.

  • Our absolute favorite: Le Nomad. Opened in early 2026, this restaurant is a pure marvel. Run by incredibly warm and welcoming owners, you will taste globally inspired cuisine, carefully crafted using high-quality local products. The setting is particularly cozy, making it perfect for enjoying tapas with friends or sharing a more intimate moment as a couple. This is an urgent must-discover spot, and reservations are highly recommended!

Where to Buy Souvenirs at Anse Mitan?

Just steps from the beach, you can easily walk to Kaz à Vanilles. This charming grocery brand operates several stores across the island. The staff is extremely pleasant and provides excellent advice to help you choose among their vast selection of spices and vanilla-based products. Furthermore, a small boutique section in the back offers great souvenir gifts and even summer clothing.

Pointe du Bout Beach

Pointe du Bout belongs to those rare places that instantly produce a spectacular visual effect. Several small, landscaped coves allow you to enjoy crystal-clear and remarkably calm water. Because the seabed is quite shallow, it perfectly suits families with young children.

During the peak tourist season, these small coves fill up very quickly. Consequently, we advise visiting early in the morning or late in the afternoon to avoid the heaviest crowds.

Additionally, we come here regularly to go snorkeling. The rocky edges are teeming with brightly colored fish. If you swim slightly further out, you will even discover several small shipwrecks beautifully colonized by coral.

  • For a quick bite: Vit et Frais offers great snacks prepared entirely with fresh ingredients. Salads, sandwiches, and toasts are available for roughly $16 to $22 USD (€15-€20).

  • For a friendly moment: Le Hangar boasts a lovely shaded terrace right on the marina. Their menu highlights generous gourmet burgers as well as fresh fish. Expect to pay between $22 and $32 USD (€20-€30) per dish. Reservations are strongly recommended here.

Anse à l'Âne Beach

Much more discreet, Anse à l’Âne offers a peaceful and deeply authentic atmosphere. Interestingly, it attracts locals just as much as it does travelers.

This was actually the very first beach we discovered upon our arrival. We simply never tire of its breathtaking view over Fort-de-France and the small Îlet Ramier island. Its golden sand and rich marine life make it an excellent snorkeling spot, particularly toward the western end. A large parking lot is available on-site, though it does fill up fast during the high season.

  • Where to eat: We highly recommend Le Kreol K Fé for a fabulous lunch right with your feet in the sand. Both the cocktails and the dishes are excellent here. Expect to pay between $22 and $32 USD (€20-€30) per meal.

  • For a sweet touch: La Case à Glace offers delicious homemade tropical sorbets to go for just about $3 USD (€3).

Try a First Dive or a Snorkeling Excursion

Les Trois-Îlets constitutes an excellent starting point to fully explore Martinique’s underwater world. Indeed, the bay harbors a rich biodiversity that remains highly accessible to all skill levels.

Several dive centers offer supervised “Discover Scuba Diving” sessions for absolute beginners. Alternatively, snorkeling remains a freer and incredibly pleasant option. We highly recommend prioritizing morning outings since the sea is usually much calmer then.

For our very first aquatic experience here, we chose the Corail Club Caraïbes dive center. Sabine and Bernard know exactly how to put you at ease so you can spend an exceptional moment underwater. To learn more and contact them, you can easily check out their website.

Take a Tour of the Pottery Village (Village de la Poterie)

Located right at the entrance of Trois-Îlets, the Village de la Poterie is a former sugar estate brilliantly converted into an artisanal hub.

Upon arrival, the prominent red brick buildings immediately recall the site’s industrial past. During the 19th century, this estate produced both sugar and ceramics. Today, these historic structures house artisan workshops and charming independent boutiques. Here, you will find unique pottery, jewelry, and textile creations.

The overall atmosphere is incredibly peaceful. Consequently, a visit seamlessly bridges historical heritage with contemporary local artistry. Finally, toward the back of the village, you will discover beautiful street art murals and a sweeping panorama over the mangrove.

Visit La Savane des Esclaves: A Must-See Memorial Site

Situated on the lush green hills, the Savane des Esclaves constitutes an essential stop for truly understanding the island’s history. This expansive open-air museum offers a genuine, profound immersion into Martinique’s past.

Created by local visionary Gilbert Larose, the site accurately retraces the daily lives of slaves and the subsequent evolution of Creole society after the 1848 abolition. By following the landscaped path, you will discover traditional wooden huts and fascinating medicinal plant gardens.

Furthermore, the tour approaches the complex topic of cultural reconstruction with great educational care. Ultimately, it is a poignant and deeply impactful experience.

  • Hours: Open daily from 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM (last entry around 4:30 PM).

  • Price: $13 USD (€12) per adult, with reduced rates available for children.

Off the Beaten Path: Horseback Riding on the Hills

Exploring the island on foot is one thing, but traversing it on horseback brings an incomparable touch of magic and serenity.

For this highly unique experience, head up to the verdant heights of the Trois-Îlets municipality to Ranch Jack. Far removed from the coastal hustle, these equestrian trails wind beautifully through tropical forests, sugarcane fields, and steep hillsides. The ultimate reward at the summit? Breathtaking panoramic views over the entire bay of Fort-de-France and the Caribbean Sea.

What we particularly loved about this ride was the soothing rhythm of the horses combined with a total reconnection to nature. The local guides know the regional flora and fauna perfectly and passionately share the history of the landscapes you cross.

Our tip: This horseback ride is perfectly accessible to absolute beginners as well as experienced riders. Just ensure you wear appropriate gear, specifically soft long pants (like leggings or loose jeans) and closed-toe shoes.

A Quick Getaway to Fort-de-France: Take the Maritime Shuttle!

Do you want to explore the capital without battling heavy traffic? Fortunately, the Vedettes Tropicales maritime shuttle provides the absolute ideal solution. You can easily board a ferry from the village center, Pointe du Bout, or Anse Mitan.

The crossing only takes about twenty minutes. Moreover, it offers a superb panoramic view over the entire bay. Thus, you will disembark peacefully right in the heart of the capital’s historic center. This quick trip allows you to easily discover the famous Covered Market and the city’s vibrant urban murals.

Good to know: Simply remember to check the schedule for the final evening departures so you don’t get stranded in Fort-de-France! To go further, consult our complete guide to visiting Fort-de-France to perfectly plan your day trip.
